SELF-INTERESTED LISTENING

The following clip highlights self-interested listening. In this video, the listener is using the conversation as a platform to comment about her own experiences and opinions, instead of focussing on the words of the speakers.

In the following example, Marion talks about how she felt that the conversation became all about Sam and how that distracted her from the issue at hand. Good listening is about focusing on what the speaker is saying, not thinking about your own experiences.
